About us
The Hydrology Group at Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María (UTFSM), in the Department of Civil Engineering, generates knowledge and robust tools that push the state of the art of hydraulic and hydrological engineering. Our goal is to address water-resources problems in a setting of constant change driven by global warming and other external factors.
We study both the efficient use of water and the natural disasters caused by extreme events, with a multi-system approach that covers every component of the hydrological cycle: atmospheric forcing, groundwater flow and ecosystems.
Through rigorous and collaborative research we tackle complex problems such as climate change, water scarcity and the sustainability of water systems. We aim to produce innovative tools and concepts that serve both the academic community and society at large.

Open-source software
We develop SWEpy, an open-source GPU solver for the two-dimensional shallow-water equations (finite volumes), used for inundation and tsunami simulations. More about SWEpy (in Spanish).
